18:15 After
having my favourite breakfast again I did a little more reading before taking
the InBio guy out snorkelling. He and
his colleague were very pleased to see all the healthy Conch snails, and whilst
I was waiting for him to stop looking at them I was busy finning the bottom
sediment and watching as Chameleon Wrasse came in to investigate picking out
bits of food, and Blackspot Mojarras joined as so-called sneakers.
After the
snorkel some Black Vultures were drinking and socialising in the outside
showers. I then went to sort out my room
and read the TA orientation ready for working on the CSU program in summer
before getting a lift out to Malpais.

Here I spent 4 hours sorting out all my internet chores whilst I waited
for some of my good photos, Corcovado shots, as well as volunteer and group
pictures to be uploaded to Facebook – by request of my friends and family, but
it was ok… I read some papers on Costa Rican coral reef diversity and
distribution work as well as ate a fair share of mint-chocolate ice-cream too.
I walked back
with some bread and an apple in hand, saw some Howler Monkeys close to the road
which seemed surreal to me by now, and near the park entrance I saw White-Faced
Capuchins foraging for food and missed what would have been an incredible shot
of a mum and baby with green shoots in their mouths.
Today I spoke
a lot more to one of the cooks who helped me learn even more Spanish and I hope
this is the start of a more exponential learning experience. After dinner she
pointed out an Armadillo going crazy foraging for ants (Check out Video 104 Parts 1 - and 2) and I adopted my
‘Attenborough pose’ as this guy didn’t even notice I was there. Now it seems the crabs have adopted War of
the Worlds or something, as there are so many of them and they are so noisy I
cannot hear the ocean waves that normally send me asleep so I am currently
jamming with my iPod instead.
