April Month Summary

The month of April represents the real transition period from dry to wet season, some odd weather events, animal sightings and behaviour were observed.

Among these were sightings of migrant birds, the rise of Harlequin Crab numbers, a Nurse Shark, a new Blenny, Common Paraque bird, a snake and giant moths - among other species...

That said the Nurse Shark was my first real encounter with a wild shark and it was great to comfortably move in relatively close to appreciate this graceful and peaceful animal.

Many other unique things happened this month too.  The first being odd tidal actively, notably the extensive red tide event leading to the loss of thousands of fish of competitively few species (mostly Anchoves), an event that came with it's own interesting species sightings.

The next significant event was the Visa renewal trip up to the neighbouring country of Nicaragua, a vastly different country that is now completely full of unique and incredible memories.  This trip entailed staying in a small but gorgeous beach-front town where cheap-as-chips restaurants lined beaches encompassed by a inset bay.  Activities included exploring the traditional culture surrounding this area, drinking the freshest cocktails and a full day trip out to Grenada followed by lake Nicaragua. This tour, although quite touristy, offered some unforgettable moments including scaling old cathedrals, visiting a hammock factory/cafe, visiting an expensive island for sale, visiting a monkey island, feeding these monkeys, and going to an island pirate bar - which we jumped off for a refreshing swim.

I also broke my camera towards the end of this month, which was a little disheartening but refreshing at the same time not to revolve around one as much.

In summary, I also picked up more Spanish, did some more reading and above all made some more lifelong friends.
