We had another day at the trapiche sugar mill today with a statistics lecture
from ML, then the mill owners wife told us the full story of the traditional
mill - how they collected the crop and how they used to throw large parties for
all the locals to gather. Following the
story the students got to manually grind up sugar cane, some feeding the crop
into the grinding gears and others replacing the positions of the traditional
horses or ox rotating the large mill around.
The sugar drink produced was very sweet! And I like sweet things so it
is unusual for me to say that.

DL
then gave us a lecture on research design and how to formulate a good project
question. She made a funny mistake by
saying "bird flora" - flora meaning plants, and so everyone was
laughing about that for a little. We
then reviewed the "50 questions" exercise, an exercise that we got
the students to undertake in the Monte Verde reserve, where the students had to
sit and come up with as many questions as they could about anything they had
thought so far - some were silly, others funny, and others I thought were
clever and innovative.
We
played some hacky sack until Bobby, the owners dog, interrupted many times
although it was entertaining watching this small dog trying to catch the bean
bag in his mouth. We all returned home, I got a photo of a Guan and then slept
from 18:30 ish! I don't know exactly why I am so tired today.
Half
way through the year now……..
